We are absolutely delighted to announce that District Healthcare has been awarded the 2025 People’s Choice Award in Domiciliary Care, presented by Plymouth City Council in celebration of excellence in care.

This award means so much because it reflects the voice of the people we support, their families, and the wider community. It is a powerful reminder that the care we provide is not only essential — it is valued, appreciated, and making a real difference in people’s lives.

Winning the People’s Choice Award is a testament to the compassion, dedication, and professionalism of our care staff, support team, and management. Whether it’s a warm smile at the door, a hand held during difficult times, or simply showing up day after day with kindness and integrity — you are the reason we do what we do.

We are incredibly proud of the relationships our team builds with clients and their families. As one relative recently told us during our CQC inspection:

Creating Space to Breathe: Our New Quiet Room

At District Healthcare, we understand that providing exceptional care starts with taking care of our team. That’s why we’re proud to unveil our newly extended premises — a thoughtfully designed, private breakout room situated just outside our main office.

This new space isn’t just a physical extension of our building — it’s an extension of our values.


Why this room matters

We work in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment where focus, empathy, and clarity are essential. While our main office is a hub of energy and collaboration, we also recognise the need for quieter moments.

This new room offers a dedicated space for:

  • Breakout time during a busy shift
  • Reflection and recharging after a challenging call or difficult day
  • Peace and privacy to gather thoughts, reset, or prepare for the next task
  • Confidential chats between colleagues or managers without interruption

It’s a small space with a big purpose — designed to support mental clarity, emotional wellbeing, and professional care.

A calm, welcoming environment

Set slightly apart from the main office, this quiet room is warm, comfortable, and filled with natural light. It offers a calm, safe environment where staff can breathe, decompress, and simply be.

Whether it’s five minutes with a hot drink, a quick check-in with a colleague, or a quiet moment between visits, this space reflects our commitment to supporting our staff not just as professionals, but as people.

Supporting our values in practice

Compassion, respect, wellbeing — these are not just words on our wall. They’re principles we put into action every day. Providing a private, restorative space is one more way we show our team: we see you, we value you, and we care about your experience just as much as the care you deliver.

Empowering Our Team

At District Healthcare, we believe that looking after our care staff is just as important as looking after the people we support. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our newest initiative: electric bikes for our non-driving care staff.

This investment is about more than just transportation — it's about supporting our team, reducing stress, and improving access to the communities we serve.


Why we’ve introduced electric bikes

Our carers go the extra mile every day — and now, so can we.

Many of our team members do not drive, and while walking and public transport have always been options, they can be time-consuming, weather-dependent, and physically exhausting when covering large areas or back-to-back visits. By introducing electric bikes, we are:

  • Improving travel times between clients, allowing staff to focus more on care and less on logistics
  • Reducing physical strain on staff who walk long distances
  • Promoting sustainability and reducing our environmental impact
  • Supporting staff wellbeing by making their day-to-day role easier and more manageable
     

Supporting our team to thrive

At District Healthcare, we take pride in being a service that truly listens to and supports its team. These electric bikes are a practical, meaningful way of investing in our staff and helping them feel valued, safe, and supported in the field.

We want every member of our team to feel proud of the work they do — and confident that they have the tools to do it well.

As one staff member recently shared during our CQC inspection:
“Communication is fantastic from the office and you have so much support out in the community.”

This new initiative is just one more way we’re demonstrating that commitment in action.
