At District Healthcare, we know that care doesn’t stop with our team — it continues long after we’ve left the doorstep. That’s why we’re proud to open up our professional training opportunities to the friends and family of the people we support.
We understand that caring for a loved one can come with unexpected challenges. Sometimes, a diagnosis or a sudden deterioration can feel overwhelming, and families are left feeling unsure of what to do next. Whether it’s supporting someone with newly diagnosed dementia, responding to changes in diabetes management, or simply wanting to better protect and understand the needs of a vulnerable relative, we’re here to help.
We are now inviting family members and close friends to access the same high-quality training our carers complete — empowering you with the knowledge and confidence to support your loved one at home.
Our training library includes over 180 specialist courses, many of which are condition-specific or skill-based. Popular sessions for families include:
· Dementia Awareness
· Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease
· Diabetes Management
· Stroke Awareness
· Nutrition and Hydration
· Moving and Handling Techniques
· Safeguarding Adults
· End-of-Life Care Awareness
· Communication and Capacity
· Mental Health First Aid
Whether you're looking for practical skills, condition-specific knowledge, or general confidence in supporting your loved one, we have something for you.
Why this matters:
Care isn’t always planned. We’ve seen first-hand how families can suddenly find themselves in new situations — perhaps following a hospital discharge, a new diagnosis, or a gradual decline in a condition that once felt manageable. By offering this training, we aim to remove uncertainty and promote safety, dignity, and confidence in the home environment.
Who can attend?
Friends, family members, neighbours — anyone playing a meaningful role in the life of one of our clients is welcome. Whether you just want to understand more or plan to take a more active role in support, you don’t need any previous experience — just a willingness to learn.
Care is at its best when everyone is involved, informed, and supported. By training together, we can build safer environments, stronger relationships, and more confident communities.
